Clarifiers and Multimedia Sandfiltration

Our Clarifier units are designed to provide the most economic solution for precipitation and clarification. The basic Clarifier design provides for coagulation, flocculation, solids recirculation, clarification and positive sludge removal in a single basin, eliminating the need for multiple tanks and associated piping. Flootech’s range of clarifier units, refined by years of application experience in the engineering and manufacturing industries, assure that a best fit solution can be found for any unique plant requirements.

Ideal for removing suspended solids from wastewater water, if clarified water requires further polishing by filtering, residual solids are efficiently removed via granular media filtration systems, which use sand and anthracite. Solid particles are trapped in the media and, when exhausted, are flushed by backwashing with air and water.

Dissolved Air Flotation

Residual suspended solids are separated by dissolved air flotation (DAF) called FlooDaf® microflotation. During this process pressurized air is dissolved into recycled effluent water to generate micro bubbles. The pressure is then released into the feed flow. The bubbles produce agglomerates with smaller specific gravity than that of water by attaching themselves with suspended particles. These agglomerates rise through the liquid and the air-water-solid mixture is distributed uniformly across the flotation tank, thus forming a floating sludge layer that is removed by surface skimmers. Heavier solids settle to the bottom of the tank and can be discharged from there. Clear liquid supernatant on the sediment layer is withdrawn under a tank baffle and over the weir for reuse or for treatment by coagulation and flocculation.

For coagulation and improved flocculation, chemical treatments are usually needed to maximize the efficiency of floc formation and separation. Emulsions of oily materials can be broken by acidification, the addition of alum or iron salts (inorganic coagulants) and by using emulsion-breaking polymers.

Biological Treatment

Biological treatment removes dissolved organics from water. Flootech’s sophisticated, compact Floobed® Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor (MBBR) uses special, freely moving biofilm carriers, which suit high capacity operations, are particularly tolerant of variations in feed flow rate and quality, and give consistently high quality results.

Most of the microbes cultivated for purification grow attached as a film on the surface of the Floobed MBBR’s carrier elements. Our design avoids the blocking problems that are a traditional hazard of attached microbiological growth processes. A specially designed bottom aeration system mixes the carrier elements amongst the treated water efficiently. The biomass that remains when water flows out of the bioreactor is separated by secondary clarification or microflotation.

Having a limited footprint and high specific efficiency, our Floobed MBBR carrier can be introduced to existing active sludge processes to meet higher capacity or more stringent quality requirements when required.

flootech water oil separation solution The first stage of wastewater treatment in petrochemical applications is normally the deployment of API or coalescing plate interceptor (CPI) equipment for the removal of large amounts of oil and suspended solids from the effluent. These units use gravity and density differences between oil droplets, water and suspended solids to separate the different substances from each other. When it has risen, an oil layer is skimmed from the water surface, while bottom layers of sediment are removed by scraper and sludge pump. In CPI units, the separation of oil from water is intensified by the water motion through the plates, which collect oil droplets together as larger ones to separate them from water more easily.

flootech floodaf technology Dissolved Air Flotation (also known as microflotation) is a well-known method of particle separation. Microbubbles are created by dissolving air into water under pressure. When the air-saturated pressurized water is released, microbubbles are formed. Chemical, physical and electrical forces cause suspended solids and colloids to attach to one another and to air bubbles. These particle flocs then float to the water’s surface and are scraped off.
